Desert Island Tunes

Today I’m playing the game “if you were stuck on a desert island and…” Todays theme is music. Richard and I go back and forth on music all the time. He’s a little…old school. My music is too noisy and crazy for his fragile genius ears. Although, I do have to say he has fucking amazing taste for his…umm…era haha.

So bullshit aside here are the top ten albums I would kidnap with me to the island. These are in no particular order. Let me know if you’ve heard any of these!

  1. Brand New – ALL ALBUMS: okay truly this is one of my all time favorite bands. Its not fair to make me pick just one and I absolutely refuse. They have in your face catty lyrics, and are musically brilliant. Angry or going through a bad break up? Please use their albums as therapy or just to rock the fuck out.
  2. Gotye – Making Mirrors: I just got this album and I’m so in love. They have killer lyrics, mellow mood, and every song is a little different. This is one even Richard can enjoy, and I think it would be our perfect beach album!
  3. Anberlin – Never Take Friendship Personal: The title says it all, and its brilliant. Don’t be fooled by this band usually being grouped in as a Christian band because they are far from it
  4. Bassnectar – Divergent Spectrum: Just about every day in the shower I shake my ass to this album. You cant help but stand up and jump around. I began my love for electronic on this hard hitting bass DJ
  5. Deadmau5 – 4×4=12: This is one of his more known releases, but I still can’t help getting happy and excited every time its on. Plus, he did a song to cthulhu, one of my favorite mythical creates ever!
  6. Die Antwoord – Ten$ion: This videos are sick, beats hot, and I fink you freeky and I like you a lot! They’re from South Africa and have a whole new feel to their electronic rap sound called ZEF.
  7. Lykki Le – Youth Novels: She’s got a soulful voice and upbeat melodies. Even when she sings about the saddest things she makes my heart jump. I have the biggest crush ever on this singer and she has so much talent so young. PS she’s also Swedish.
  8. Nirvana – Nevermind: How can you not love them? I’m sorry I can’t trust a person who doesn’t jam out to grunge. Come as you are, as you were, as I want you to be bitches ;)
  9. Marilyn Manson – Lest We Forget: This has all of my favorite songs from Manson. He’s dark and offensive just like me :D
  10. Skrillex – Bangarang: OMFG this gets my blood pumping! Dubstep isn’t for everyone but this is truly one of the best releases in its genre. Plus a mash up with the remaining members of the DOORS?! So good.

If you’re unfamiliar with any of these I highly recommend checking them out. Tell me what you think! If I’ve missed anything, trust me, Richard will have it. I could go on for days with music.

  • Once again we learn something new about you that makes us love you more! Your taste in music is superb but we already knew that from the brief snippets you share with us. My Top 10 in no alphabetical order cos it’s easier for me to go thru my Playlist LOL:

    1. Green Day – American Idiot: It’s our generation’s Tommy!

    2. Rancid – …And Out Come The Wolves. One of the most underrated yet influential punk bands ever!

    3. Nine Inch Nails – Broken: This is what I play whenever I’m in a really pissed off mood & just want to destroy something.

    4. New Found Glory – Coming Home: It’s not their most popular one but it’s the one where they weren’t afraid to grow up & write songs about being happy and in love.

    5. Atreyu – A Death – Grip On Yesterday: I know The Curse is their breakout album but this is just more raw & in your face. I will never get tired of the dueling vocals of sing/scream style.

    6. Wu-Tang Clan – Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers): The greatest rap group album of all time.

    7. Jack’s Mannequin – Everything In Transit: Andrew McMahon is an absolute musical genius. This album also served as an omen of sorts cos it deals with the narrator getting sick & dealing with death and right on the eve of its release, he is diagnosed with leukemia. Very freaky.

    8. Linkin Park – [Hybrid Theory]: One my favorite band of all time & I’m not afraid to admit it! They are the soundtrack of my life!

    9. The Beatles – LOVE: An amazing show & the soundtrack made it even better.

    10. Oasis – (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?: My second favorite band of all time. I was literally obsessed with BritPop during college.

Damn, I was only up to ‘L’ before I had to end it & throw in Oasis. Maybe I’ll have to do an 11-20 list? :)

    • I have all of those!! I kind of had to do my top ten favorite NEW albums plus whatever else I’m listening to. It was pretty hard

  • one out of ten is horrible. nine can go away and be forgotten. just sayin. :-)

  • If I’m stuck on a deserted island I’m going to do it the proper way, just give me a ukulele.
